The ATS Myth That's Costing You Interviews
Everyone's obsessing over ATS keywords.
They're stuffing resumes with buzzwords, running them through scanners, tweaking formats obsessively.
Here's the hard truth: that's not what's blocking you.
What ATS actually does:
- Parses your resume into structured data
- Matches it against the job description
- Ranks you for the recruiter to review
What it does NOT do:
- Automatically reject you for missing a keyword
- Care about fancy fonts or two-column layouts... but humans do
- Replace the human decision
The real problem? Clarity.
Hiring managers open your resume and within 30 seconds ask: "Does this person solve MY problem?"
If the answer isn't obvious immediately — you're out. Not because of ATS. Because of unclear positioning.
The real fix:
1. Write for HUMANS first, ATS second
2. Mirror the language in the job description (naturally, not robotically)
3. Lead with your value, not your job duties
4. Make it impossible for a recruiter to miss your impact
Stop blaming the algorithm. Start owning your story.
